AYWS Alum Makes ESPN Debut

Jonathan Craig, AYWS alumnus and music composition major at Duquesne University, had his arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner performed at the start of the Pittsburgh Steelers/Minnesota Vikings game on Sunday, September 17, on ESPN. The national anthem was performed by the brass section of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Bravo, Jonathan!

AYWS percussionist Sebastian Moneyron selected for 2018
U.S. Army All-American Marching Band

Congratulations to AYWS percussionist Sebastian Moneyron who was selected as a member of the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band on mallets.  He will receive an all-expenses paid trip to San Antonio, Texas, in January, where he will perform the half-time program for the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Sebastian is a senior at Milton High School where he participates in the wind ensemble, marching band, indoor drumline.  He is a marimba specialist and hopes to continue percussion in college.  He attended the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic this past June, along with a number of AYWS students and Dr. Stewart, who serves on the faculty.

 

 

May 2017 Pre-Concert Reception

Join us at 5Church Atlanta, one of Midtown's hottest new restaurants, for our annual pre-concert reception and fundraiser! Mingle with Dr. Stewart, enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres, and celebrate the end of the AWYS' successful 2016-17 season.

Complimentary valet parking is available at the restaurant, and attendees may leave their cars there during the AYWS concert at Atlanta Symphony Hall, which is just a five-minute walk from the restaurant. Self-parking is also available at Colony Square and the Woodruff Arts Center.

 

 

AYWS to Play in Miami on Saturday, June 3, 2017

This summer, the AYWS takes a trip to Miami, Florida, to present a concert at the New World Center, home of the New World Symphony. Alumni and supporters in South Florida: make plans to join us for the performance!

 

 

J. Peter Burkholder Joins AYWS for All-Ives Concert

American musicologist J. Peter Burkholder joined the AYWS in December for its celebration of famed American composer Charles Ives. His visit also included a WABE 90.1 FM interview with Dr. Stewart and "City Lights" host Lois Reitzes.

 

 

2016 Halloween Costume Contest Winners

AYWS Members Perform on National Stage

Congrats to Thomas Berar (trumpet), Nick Tewell (bass clarinet), and Leslie Sullivan (contrabass clarinet), who recently participated in the National Association of Music Educators All-National Honor Ensembles Concert Band. Bravo!
