The AYWS Foundation exists to provide fundraising and operational support for the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony. It is comprised of Music Director Dr. Scott Stewart and volunteer board members who serve terms of three years. Profiles of the members, many of whom are AYWS alumni, are listed below.


Board of Directors

Lindsay Aleshire is an alumna of AYWS (saxophone, 2005-2006) and a graduate of the University of Georgia, where she earned a degree in music (with a concentration in oboe) and a degree in public relations. Lindsay is the Marketing & Operations Manager for the Atlanta Music Project, a tuition-free after-school music education program for underserved students.

Mimi Doss immigrated to Birmingham, Alabama in 1981. She graduated from University of Alabama Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Programming. Her son performed in AYWS for two seasons. She is active on the Board of his Alma mater’s (Mount Pisgah Christian School) Arts (Band, drumline, orchestra, Chorus, Visual Arts and Performing arts) boosters.

Bill Germany has a BBA in Accounting from the University of Memphis, and has 30 years’ experience in Financial Accounting and Commercial Banking.  He is a Senior Vice President for Fidelity Bank in Atlanta, and his son is a Woodruff Music Scholar at Emory University, who played trumpet in AYWS from 2014-2016.

Wendy Hooper currently serves as secretary for the AYWS foundation. She has a degree in criminal justice from Gwinnett Tech. Her son, Drew, is a music major at GSU and played percussion in AYWS from 2012-2016.

John Larkin has a BA from Reed College, MSIE from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and MBA from SMU.  He is currently a Staff QA Engineer for ARRIS International, Ltd. and has a son who played trumpet in AYWS from 2009-2013.

Lauren Mayo has a BFA in Graphic Communications from Kennesaw State University and currently works as a freelance graphic designer. She played French Horn in AYWS from 2009-2012. She went on to perform in her college Wind Ensemble and Orchestra for 2 years before concentrating on her art major.

Kim Nogi provides strategic guidance and marketing and communications support for a variety of clients through her work at Jackson Spalding. She holds bachelor's degrees in public relations and music performance from the University of Georgia. An AYWS alumna, Kim performed at Carnegie Hall and on NPR's "From the Top" during her three seasons as a bass clarinetist.

Preston Mayo is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. He currently serves as an Associate Account Manager at InComm, and was a member of AYWS from 2009-2010 playing trumpet.

William Pitts has a BA from Emory University and an MM from the University of Michigan. He works as a composer, conductor, and educator, serving on the faculty of Pace Academy. He served as the AYWS Manager from 2004-2006.

Dave Sullivan has a BA from Excelsior College in New York.  A retired military officer, he is self-employed in the aviation field.  His daughter is a current member of the AYWS.
